Slow Dance – Racing Hearts

Written in June 2019, and as a draft for possibly a song, this poem is about love and being with that special one through life. This is dedicated to my wife, Line.

Refrain

It’s a slow dance but with racing hearts

You’re in my arms and we’ll never part

It’s a slow dance but with racing hearts

My love for you is way off the charts.

Verses

We met long ago under the moon and the stars

Like the coming together of venus and mars

Our arms have stretched out but never been apart

It’s a slow dance but with racing hearts

The music is playing softly with a slow, steady beat

We move together easily with the shuffling of feet

Looking into your eyes, you still give me fits and starts

It’s a slow dance but with racing hearts

We dance to all kinds of music and sing silly songs

In our hearts we know that we will always belong

To paint us together takes some creative art

It’s a slow dance but with racing hearts

There is warmth that spreads when we hold each other tight

The sun and stars are clearer and shine more bright

We’ll forever be together even with many moving parts

It’s a slow dance but with racing hearts.

Life is a like a melody with both highs and lows

It also has the thorns and the beauty of a rose

Ours is a garden with a choir of growing parts

It’s a slow dance but with racing hearts.
