My annual Christmas poem (December 2024) speaks to the guiding star that was so instrumental in the original Christmas story, and the guiding star that exists within each of us. Enough said for the poem tells the story. Merry Christmas!
There’s a Christmas tale of a guiding star
Leading wise men from lands afar
To see a boy child deigned the special one
The Prince of Peace and God’s son
Those men with gifts they did carry
And on bended knee before mother Mary
They offered thanks and bowed to the boy
And in their hearts, there was new joy
That evening sparked an annual rite
Of celebration and shining lights
Where gifts are given with hearts of love
To honour the gift received from above
What of the star that shone that night
Where in the sky is that light
It’s all around us for the spirit lives
Through acts of kindness that always give
The star and kindness offer hope
To those tired, weary and who cannot cope
A hope that there are others who care
And that someone’s listening to their prayers
Beyond religion, this is about our soul
Within us, our star that makes us whole
That listens and watches for those in need
Our internal compass we should heed
A guiding star inside us and in the sky
Keeping us true while lifting high
The source of our enduring might
Nurtured and followed, it shines so bright
