A Grandpa’s Moment

As a distant grandparent, I truly value the few face-to-face times we have to enjoy being with our five month old granddaughter. For a week in September 2025, we had an extended cuddle time and a chance to share and be together in ways that facetime simply cannot replace.

I held her in my arms as we strolled about the room
Her eyes darting all about and then began to zoom
She was taking it all in but then reached out to touch
Adding in the tactile while processing so very much

She smiled as she passed her hand over different objects
First touching tentatively and then letting her fingers flex
The rough surface of a bear and another of smooth glass
Then onto other items and sights in this moment of life’s class

I felt so close to my granddaughter as we did this little tour
A brief moment that will last forever of that I’m very sure
A grandfather’s role of teaching and being there for this one
Then a gentle transfer of her back to her father and my son
