Summer

One cannot be outside for very long during the period of May through August without being faced with the sounds and sights of summer in Canada. Sitting and enjoying all that summer is adds tremendously to reflection time around the pool. Written in July 2018.

The sun shines hot and reaches all in sight
There is little relief from its very bright light
Any shady spots shift and dance all about
Summer has arrived; there is no doubt.

Summer breezes blow, moving the air around
Leaves rustle together, making the only sound
Butterflies glide, alighting on flowers that bloom
The scent of which is like an aromatic perfume.

The birds tweet loudly from their nests on high
While bees buzz and seek where the pollen lies
In the evening sun, the mosquitoes come out
Their attempts to feed, met with slaps and shouts.

The solstice has passed yet the days are long
Summer proclaims itself like a beautiful song.
