Queen’s Homecomings are an event, particularly for those who are alumni of the university. In 2018, it was the 40th reunion for my undergraduate class of Commerce ’78, and I was also serving on Queen’s University Council at that time. Of course there was a poem to be written!
We’re coming home to the red, gold and blue
It’s time to visit; Queen’s spirit to renew
No matter the years past, we come from afar
It’s not what we’ve done; to us we’re all stars.
We’ll dance the Oil Thigh; and sing our song
Listen to the bagpipes, knowing we all belong
We come together from around the world
One in spirit, under Queen’s flag unfurled.
Our Gaelic war cry means ‘no surrender’
Graduates from Queen’s; there’s no pretenders
Our schools were different but we’re all from Queen’s
Our pride and passion; unbeatable by any means.
We’ll walk the campus that was our home
Wandering the hallways where we did roam
We’ll parade our colours to the football game
Reliving and celebrating Queen’s acclaim.
We’ll share our stories of lives lived apart
Laughing and enjoying the reconnecting of hearts
We’ll recall our memories of times long ago
Homecoming it’s called; always a good show.
