Heavenly Skies

I really appreciate my swimming pool not only because of the joy of being in it, but because it has become a place where I reflect and get inspired. Written in 2019, looking up into the skies….

I am lying outside on this hot summer day
In my swimming pool catching sunny rays
As I look upward into the ceiling of blue sky
I am very thankful yet also imagine when I die

I see and feel the warmth of the big yellow sun
The centre of the universe, making all planets run
Brightening days and enabling those on earth to grow
Considered by most humans better than the rain and snow

White puffy clouds through the sky quickly float
All kinds of shapes and sizes, like a fleet of flying boats
The clouds bring shadows, a relief from the burning sun
If they turn dark grey, it will be time to turn and run.

And then into my vision there’s a monarch butterfly
Silently colouring my world and by itself it beautifies
A bird comes into the picture as it flies from tree to tree
Signaling inspiration and the pleasure of being free

The blue sky goes on forever and covers what’s beyond
Imagine what its like to fly through it, losing the earthly bond
One would then be in the universe watching the twinkling stars
Able to see the earth below and perhaps visiting Mars.

But for me I wonder what it’s like to be in heaven above
Imagining the journey and being surrounded by the love
Perhaps writing verse or travelling, helping those in need
Home in heavenly skies, my whole self now totally freed
