I wrote this poem in February 2025 in the face of daily attacks by the President of the USA who was treating Canada as simply a country that could be erased by removing a boundary. It captures my anger and frustration yet also is meant to be a means to send a message to south of the border and the current administration. We have every reason to be proud and to stand up to his belligerence and bullying.
Life is not normal; we’re under attack
We’re standing together, never to go back
There are kids in the White House led by a con
The moment’s arrived for a new dawn
We’re not buying their goods or being afraid
We’re calling their BS and will not be laid
We’re not travelling to see their cities or sun
We will not back down nor be overrun
Number 47 is a clown who wants to be king
When he opens his mouth, I feel like puking
Why would we cow to something so low
He should be locked up to live in Mar-a-Lago
We never asked for the threats or to live in fear
Our booing their anthem is meant as a Bronx cheer
Not of the country nor those who live there
But of the idiot who sits in the oval office chair
Canada is a people and a sovereign nation
We sing our anthem with pride and loud elation
For we care and live with a heartbeat of one
We’re shoulder to shoulder, and second to none
We’ll never retreat or be the 51st state
Our destiny is greater and we deserve a better fate
We say no to US politics and lack of health care
We say yes to freedom and value life that is fair
Our Canada is better than any and all of his lies
We’re proud of who we are for that’s our prize
We’re working together to improve our lot
We’re not for sale and will never be bought
So, Donny, you can hurt us and bring on a few tears
But we’ll never respect you for that’s very clear
You’re nothing more than a bumpkin full of crap
Canada – always above you on the world map.
