In this day and age where there is so often information and perspectives shared for the purpose of creating division or reinforcing power, or simply to create ones’ own world, I was inspired to write this poem in August 2025. In my view, while differing perspectives are interesting and can add richness, there is more often than not, only one truth. It requires a harsh honesty with oneself in recognising and accepting the truth sometimes, and yet by so doing, we become stronger and have greater integrity.
There is but one truth as with the northern star
An innate compass for each to be all that we are
This truth is simple and forever shines bright
A constant that provides vision both day and night
Even when there is cloud that could mess us around
The truth light shines within and can always be found
This truth serves to keep each of us thoroughly aligned
The connection of heart, body, soul and mind
This truth goes beyond written rules and laws
It is found in our conscience meant to give pause
A pause in our words used or actions that we take
Is this who we aspire to be, or what makes us fake
It is not about being perfect for mistakes we all make
Yet a means to inspire and to offset any heart ache
We learn by listening to the voice in our head
And to responses to prayers that have been said
This truth feeds contentment no matter the choice
In decisions made and giving reason to rejoice
And when we err or slip off the path
It permits forgiveness and lessens the wrath
This one truth both grounds and lifts us to the sky
With hearts wide open to the question of why
The one truth is for each of us for there is no other way
The source of kindness and peace each and every day
