I completed this poem in November 2025 after beginning it some months ago. It is the second of this type where I have selected a word, and then written in a way to use its’ synonyms in a broader context. I like the word ‘invincible’ as it speaks to both strength and confidence. And these days, as Canadians, we need to reflect these in words and actions.
We are pioneers, overcoming adversity and challenges that were and are not for the faint hearted.
We live in the north land, for the most part on rock and in the cold for six months of the year necessitating ruggedness, determination, learning and a will to overcome adversity.
We live in partnership with strangers and neighbours spread across a land that takes weeks to cross with a shared sense of optimism no matter the odds.
We have fought hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder in defence of our country, our land, our peoples, our nation, our democracy in multiple wars and battles proving that we are unconquerable and formidable.
We are ferocious and stalwart, rising to whatever challenge and unstoppable in the pursuit of our goal, a gift of each other’s strength, loyalty and reliability.
We are resolute and steadfast with our values binding us as one as we celebrate and nurture our individualism and diversity, and our kindness and generosity of spirit.
We are invincible.
We are Canadian.
