I began writing this poem in September 2025 upon return from a trip to PEI and Cape Breton where Line and I had the opportunity to walk and spend time on many different beaches. Then found myself finally completing the poem only in November. There is such pleasure in being on a beach simply enjoying the moment, and the sounds that surround oneself in such moments of seclusion, reflection and even intimacy.
A quiet stroll on a beach is always unique
Be it at sunrise or sunset, it is forever neat
The sand on the feet and surf’s crashing sound
Could have you believe no one else is around
Stand still and listen; the ocean is calling your name
Thanking you for coming and playing mind games
You’ll be alone and peaceful in a world of content
Then tossed upside down by the messages sent
Messages from the other side of the ocean far
Floating to you by the power of sun and stars
Like the stones and seashells which land by your feet
Each so different in ways no man could repeat
Wading in the water and making castles with pails
Watching the clouds race while winds blow many sails
The beach can be like a playground or a spot to observe
A place to relax and enjoy and forever preserve
You could walk alone or with your loved one in hand
Admiring the ocean’s vastness and the feel of the sand
Watching the sun rise or as it sets in the west
Making memories on the beach is always the best
