Soul Food

This poem from 2018 speaks to how we are each nourished and our lives refreshed by giving ourselves permission to consciously rejuvenate our soul.

Sometimes it’s a verse; sometimes it’s a prayer
Oftentimes though it’s simply breathing the fresh morning air
A walk through nature’s wilderness or even around the block
May give the space required from deadlines and the clock

A cuddle with a puppy or just sitting in the sun
Can renew the spirit and belief of being second to only one
Or perhaps it’s a good book or an uplifting song
That lightens the load one feels, and makes the heart beat strong

Hearing chimes ring in the wind or the laughter of a child
Brings contentment with oneself like all has been reconciled
Holding hands with the person for whom you love and care
Or seeing acts of generosity as others reach out and share

Nourishing the soul is important if we’re to spread our wings
Through simple conscious feedings, we ensure it lives and sings.
