My Day

Not all poetry is supposed to be intense and serious. And with this poem written in April 2020, I expect you will experience that. This is written as a child living the early days of virtual life-COVID. Hope you enjoy.

This morning when I woke up
I looked outside and saw the sun
Ran downstairs to play with my pup
Then decided to have some fun.

I climbed the tree in my front yard
While my puppy chased the leaves
I was like a sentinel, serving as a guard
Yet below me, the squirrels were being thieves.

Next was a walk with my puppy pulling me
She is learning how to listen and how to walk
She likes to smell about and stops to pee
I decided to go home when she started to talk.

My brother and sisters were playing on the trampoline
I figured I would join them bouncing up and down
We were having lots of fun but turning putrid green
That’s when we saw our neighbour dressed as a clown.

I could not go down to the river
So put our canoe in the swimming pool
Then the pizza they would not deliver
So went inside for my virtual school.

It was fun to see my friends and teacher
As we learned all about the world
We talked science and about weird creatures
Then laughed as our teacher’s hair uncurled.

School did finish so I went and played outside
My puppy did hopscotch as I skipped the double dutch
My parents were laughing so hard they almost cried
It feels so good to be a family, all in touch.

The day is now over and I am back in bed
It has been a fun day but I am very tired
I can seen the man on the moon as I lay my head
I fall asleep happy and dreaming to be inspired.
